A capsule wardrobe is not a smaller wardrobe. It is a wardrobe where every piece has already agreed to work with every other piece, so getting dressed stops being a negotiation.
Begin with what you already reach for
Before buying anything, spend two weeks noting what you actually wear. Not what you own, not what you meant to wear — what came off the hanger. That list is the honest beginning of your capsule, and it is usually shorter and plainer than expected.
- Photograph every outfit you genuinely liked
- Note the three colours that keep reappearing
- Identify the one silhouette you feel most yourself in
Build outward from a single palette
Choose one neutral base, one supporting neutral, and one colour that makes you look alive. Everything you add afterwards has to work with all three. This one constraint does more for a wardrobe than any quantity rule.
The point is not deprivation. It is that a small, coherent set of clothes gives you more outfits than a large incoherent one — and returns the first ten minutes of your morning.
